Hunting Chris Ryan

I think last night's episode of Hunting Chris Ryan was the last in the seris, but I must admit that it was quite entertaining. The premise is that Chris Ryan is given a special-ops type mission, with a squad of hunters chasing him down the whole way. He has to avoid capture and they have to find him. Simple premise. Last night was in Botswana, and the "hunters" are backed up by local military to help with tracking and the like.

There are a couple of problems with the format. The first is that we know he's not going to get captured immediately, because if he is, there's no show (and they have an hour to fill). We are also told that Ryan is primarily filming himself as he goes, but we get lots of cut aways of him. Now maybe many of these are pick-ups, but if they're not, then there are a lot of camera crews hanging around the place, surely putting the hunters onto Ryan. Unless the camera crews are ex-SAS too! Failings aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the programme, even if both the ex-US special forces seemed to have to chomp on big cigars the whole time. And even if far too much was staged.

I can't believe that there was only three shows, i was gutted on Thursday wen it didn't come on... I thoroughly enjoyed the three and hope they make some more!!!

I did think that Chris's taskes where a little difficult and often thought he would be captured as 'Hunter Force1' seemed to get very accurate info on Chris' where'a'bouts, but then again... this is SAS.

Please make some more....

It was a fun program.

Chris Ryan seems like a nice chap. My wife was certainly taken with him!

In the last program he was a bit scuppered when trying to retrieve the downed pilot. After all the hunter force had simply posted lots of soldiers around the pilots position making it darn near impossible to get him out. Unless Chris fancied a massive fire-fight (I don't think the shotgun would have helped him much!)

Btw does anybody know what the song was in the first program that was playing when he was choppered to his first drop off point? (something rocky and from the 70's or late 60's I think, I asked BBC Info but they couldn't help).

I loved Chris Ryan and if it comes out on DVD I am going to buy it. The first one kept you on the edge of your seat because you didn't know what was going to happen. Its so sad its over, they should make more military things because this gets people watching. I love watching P.O.W on a friday though thats going to be over too! I wish they would run the military things on a bit longer because they are so good!!

I met Chris on Tuesday, what can I say, he's an amazing guy, knows his stuff and I am completely in awe.

I thought this programme was great, but very scripted. Chris Ryan seems to give 110% at everything he does, which is why he was so succesfull. Why he was in 22 probably.

In reply to Simon : SAS selection is the most physically and mentally demanding selection there is. Little more than 1 in 12 pass (and these are an extremly fit 12).

The regiment has a very real job to do. The things you see on TV are bollocks other wise the MOD wouldnt allow it to be shown. There is still very much a veil of secrecy surrounding the regiment and there movements.

If you are serious about it find out what the guys really do. It not all embassy storming and running from hunter forces. It could be bogged up in an OP for months. This is what most fail to see and why little "real" appreciation is givin to those gifted enough to wear the beret and dagger badge.
