The Fight

This is the kind of television that I want to see. I suppose I really stumbled across this BBC coproduction about the fight in 1938 between black American Joe Louis and white German Max Schmeling.

Obviously the film culminated with the fight itself, but it interweaved the two fighters stories, and gave an insight into the racism of the time in the USA, and the rise of Nazism in Germany.

By the end, the fight itself was a straightforward US v Nazi Germany surrogate - with both black and white Americans supporting their hero Joe Louis who seems to have been a wonderful human being.
