The Late Edition

|

A quick word on The Late Edition (tickets available) which started last week on BBC Four. An admirable effort hosted by that work-shy Marcus Bridgestock (recently seen or heard in The Now Show, The Museum of Everything, Giles Wemmbley Hogg Goes Off, Twisted Tales, Brighton Comedy Festival and Think The Unthinkable - and that is just recently).

While aping the news isn't exactly a novelty, you do feel that some of the production team may have caught more than a few editions of Jon Stewart's Daily Show. Using clips of the news to lace with comedy is a good idea, even if it's a little close to BBC Four's other recent new series, Don't Watch That, Watch This. They've also got the mix of "fake" news commentators and guests, as well as real ones. But it really didn't work having an actor playing a pro-fox hunting type questioning a real MP. Still, give the series time to find its legs.
