This week’s (US) episode of The Shield was directed by David Mamet!
In some respects I’m always a little uncertain about big name guest directors on TV series, particularly those with a noticeably stylised approach. The Shield does fall firmly into that category with roaming “un-steadycam” work and the like. But the scenes with Dutch and… well.. that’d be a spoiler wouldn’t it? Let’s just say that they’re well worth watching and the show’s ending was very disturbing.
I do think that The Shield is probably the best US drama series currently airing that I’ve seen – beating the likes of The Sopranos. It packs a mighty punch.
I’m not sure when Channel Five (calling it just Five sounds so wrong) are going to start showing the next series in the UK.
