This book probably isn&#8217;t available for &pound;3.73 in your local branch of Tesco (and what is it about that .73 price point?), but you should seek it out in your local  bookshop &#8211; assuming you still have one.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ve all heard many of the stories about Tesco, and I&#8217;m not shy about talking about them myself in this blog. But it&#8217;s worth reiterating some of the main points.<br \/>\nOur high streets are dying because you can now buy everything you need from just one shop. And seemingly, consumers are completely happy doing that.<br \/>\nWhy exactly are those prices so cheap? Who&#8217;s having to pay for it? Why does Tesco have a massive land bank that actually stops competitors getting a foothold in the market?<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not just Tesco, although they&#8217;re worse than most. If we all want all our high streets to look exactly the same, then we&#8217;re going the right way.<br \/>\nI noticed the other day that locally, we&#8217;re getting a new Tesco in what was a car show-room. It&#8217;s very near a commuter station which won&#8217;t do it any harm. And it&#8217;s right across the road from a perfectly good Budgens. It&#8217;s half a mile from a Tesco superstore, and another mile away from the next one in the same direction. We&#8217;re slowly but inevitably giving ourselves no choice whatsoever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ah. The new evil empire.
