But in the strange world of confectionary, that&#8217;s not always the case.<br \/>\nI was in Waitrose earlier, and it being February, there are clearly lots of Cadbury Creme eggs about.<br \/>\nBut the pricing was slightly odd.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/6863626871\/\" title=\"\u00a31.55 for 3 by adambowie, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7049\/6863626871_ab4d71cdc3_m.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\u00a31.55 for 3\"><\/a><br \/>\nI could buy a box of three for \u00a31.55 (about 52p each). But just below, loose Creme Eggs were priced at \u00a31.20 for 3 (40p each).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/6863625661\/\" title=\"\u00a31.20 for 3 by adambowie, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7045\/6863625661_269d39a38b_m.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\u00a31.20 for 3\"><\/a><br \/>\nSo anyone who wants three eggs should buy loose ones.<br \/>\nBut wait! For just 32p more, I could buy a box of six Creme Eggs.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/6863627413\/\" title=\"\u00a31.52 for 6 by adambowie, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7177\/6863627413_1fa6fe84c5_m.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\u00a31.52 for 6\"><\/a><br \/>\nThat&#8217;s just over 25p each. And for some reason a box of six is actually <I>cheaper<\/I> than a box of three. Probably not going to help the diet.<br \/>\nMaybe I six doesn&#8217;t cut it. I should get a larger pack and try to save even more! Handily, there&#8217;s yet another special offer.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/6863628035\/\" title=\"\u00a35 for 12 by adambowie, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7196\/6863628035_9fc4b391c4_m.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\u00a35 for 12\"><\/a><br \/>\nI can get 12 Creme Eggs for \u00a35. But that&#8217;s just under 43p each &#8211; and much more expensive than buying in sixes. Indeed, it&#8217;s cheaper to buy them loose in threes rather than in a large box.<br \/>\nI suppose the thing to note here is that if you&#8217;re buying Creme Eggs in Waitrose, get them in sixes.<br \/>\nI shouldn&#8217;t be surprised. It&#8217;s usually always cheaper to buy loose fruit and veg rather than pre-packaged ones. And when products have a multiplicity of special offers, it&#8217;s not always obvious what the cheapest way is to buy soft drinks or beers. And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.which.co.uk\/news\/2011\/11\/supermarket-unit-prices---unclear-and-inconsistent-271661\/\">Which recently launched<\/a> a campaign to aid consumers in unit prices.<br \/>\nI was still surprised by quite how disparate this pricing was though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We all know that if we buy bigger packs of products, we tend to save money.
