{"id":4637,"date":"2015-05-18T23:19:26","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T22:19:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.adambowie.com\/?p=4637"},"modified":"2015-05-18T23:21:16","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T22:21:16","slug":"hyperlapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adambowie.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/hyperlapse\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperlapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has recently released its <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/redmond\/projects\/hyperlapseapps\/\">Hyperlapse tool<\/a> &#8211; in Windows, Windows Phone and Android formats. <\/p>\n<p>I decided to put it to the test with a video shot on my commute home. I shot the video at quite a high frame-rate which probably didn&#8217;t help. Anyway, the result of the software is below. At the moment the software is in beta and the watermark comes as standard on the desktop version of the software.<\/p>\n<p>After a first pass, the video then shows you the Hyperlapse results alongside a simply sped-up version of the footage using Premiere. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/128198019\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/128198019\">Hyperlapse Test<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/abowie\">Adam Bowie<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason there are some odd timing issues despite me using the same start and end points. I&#8217;m not sure if this is a question of the settings I used in Hyperlapse and the odd high framerate I used, or perhaps it&#8217;s part of the hyperlapse process.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, you can see that there&#8217;s a distinct difference between the two videos, with a significantly smoothed output using Hyperlapse. <\/p>\n<p>Being picky, there is a blue tint to the video, and you can see in the comparison that the original video has a more realistic colour pallette. My particular Sony ActionCam (AS15) &#8211; does not appear in the presets in the software. For those with one of those cameras &#8211; all models of GoPro for example &#8211; there are more settings that can be tweaked.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, the camera was mounted on my Brompton&#8217;s handlebars, and although the camera has some image stabilisation, pot-holed London streets allied with small wheels usually mean a lot of vibrations in the camera (on a couple of occasions I had to right the camera a little as the mount was causing the camera to point upwards a bit too much).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has recently released its Hyperlapse tool &#8211; in Windows, Windows Phone and Android formats.
