WAGN

Why is it that I always feel that WAGN are screwing us poor commuters on the Hertford Loop? To explain for a moment, you need to know that going north from Kings Cross, there is a mainline operated by GNER, and two commuter lines operated by WAGN. One of these lines runs parallel to the mainline, stopping at stations the inter-cities go straight through. The other line “loops” off going via Hertford before rejoining the mainline route around Stevenage.
But what happens is that anytime anything goes wrong on the mainline, trains are routed via our “loop”, where there’s only one set of tracks. This then screws up the local trains.
So on weekends from now until late March, there are engineering works on the mainline meaning that weekend travel is completely screwed. The one train an hour situation could be liveable with if it wasn’t for the fact that I sat at the station today for the better part of an hour and a half trying to get a train. Thank goodness I wasn’t attempting to get to Highbury today, as I’m not sure that I’d have made it at all.
Oh, and which bright spark in WAGN had the brilliant idea of making their station signs white writing on a navy background. That really helps for station sign visibility at night…
