Journeys With George

By total accident, I caught this programme on BBC4 last night, and was very glad that I did.
The film was basically a home movie made by an NBC producer who was part of the George W Bush campaign press pack throughout the 2000 campaign. I had an idea of what this was like from things like Tanner ’88 (one of my favourite ever political TV programmes), and Primary Colors, but this really did flesh the press pack out a little. It is scary how easily someone very personable like Bush can effectively nullify a liberal press pack. I dislike Bush as a president intently, yet you can’t help but think he’s a “nice guy” from this portrait – well as long as you don’t dwell on things like his record on capital punishment…
Anyway, I shall be recording it for posterity on Tuesday when it gets repeated.
