So as the book thing in the top left hand corner says, I’m currently reading “The Way We Live Now”. There was an excellent passage I was reading on the way home last night, detailing how 200 tickets to a dinner that Melmotte was giving to the Emporer of China were to be allocated. It was the end of this passage that particularly amused me:
Three tickets were to be kept over for presentation to bores endowed with a power of making themselves absolutely unendurable if not admitted at the last moment…
We’re currently dishing out tickets to V Festival at the moment, and I know what he means.
