I really really really hate it when people like Mark Lawson start talking about the shared experience that is tat like Footballer’s Wives.
Can I just reiterate something – it’s not that popular! I know that some in the media don’t like to believe it, but the final episode in the last series had an audience of 6.1m. The average episode of Emmerdale gets something like 10m, so this is nothing really. I think it’s a certain Islington class of people who love to watch this kind of television, telling themselves that they’re wallowing in trash telly. And because they mix with one another, they convince themselves that everyone watches it. You’d get more recognition if you talked about the goings on Yorkshire as it happens.
