I fear that I really may have to start boycotting Tesco if the scheme mentioned here comes to pass. As Jon Snow notes in his ever interesting Snowmail, how much more money do they need to save when they’re recording 1.7bn profits?
The idea that people who are ill should only start getting paid after they’ve been ill for three days is ludicrous, even if it is law. There are a few people around at the moment with hacking coughs (I had one myself the other week). Should we all come into work and spread the germs around? Or should we stay in bed for a couple of days and try to recouperate. The idea that checkout staff are spluttering over my fresh fruit and veg is pretty revolting.
Absolutely businesses need to do something about employee absenteeism, but if people are skivving, then I think there are probably some larger underlying problems that need addressing.
