Although it was broadcast on Radio 3 last Sunday, I’ve only just listened to How Many Miles to Basra? The play’s about what happens when a small group of British soldiers are out in the desert after hostilities have ceased, accompanied by a career-focused radio journalist.
Obviously things happen to them, starting with the accidental killing of several Iraqis that they believe to be threatening – they speak no Arabic, the Iraqis no English. It’s a great play and well worth a listen before it vanishes off the BBC website on Sunday evening. [NB I found it tricky to reach the audio to work before eventually getting there via the BBC Radio Player] Great use of music throughout by the way.
