British Police Cars

I saw the first double-length episode of the new series of Alias at the weekend, and as usual it was a globe-trotting affair with the theft of Japanese sword from a museum which some might mistake as being The British Museum.
Afterwards, Sydney gets picked up by her father who’s driving a British police car. Well I say that, but I’m not entirely sure what he was driving. You know how in old episodes of Mission Impossible set in East European countries like, oh, Ruritania, the set dressers tended to give them generic Citreon vans to drive, well the same seems to be the case for 21st century Britain.
I think events must have gone something like this: “The script calls for a British police car. Anyone know what one of them looks like?” “Hang on, I’ve got an old tape of something called ‘Z-Cars’ from 1967. They look like this.” “Excellent. Props – get me a Ford Zephyr immediately!”
