The Real Hustle

I don’t know if this is some kind of precurssor to a new series of The Hustle, but BBC Three has just shown a programme called The Real Hustle. They showed a series of genuine “hustles” using their own hustlers on unwitting members of the public showing some common scams with hidden cameras recording the action.
There wasn’t anything too surprising, although it certainly showed that people fall for this stuff too easily. I know someone who fell for the “mustard” scam which is just a diversionary tactic to pick your pocket.
They also showed a key-logging scam where a keyboard with a hardware logger fitted inside it. They showed the scammers collecting the data in a van outside. On-screen the bank details they were capturing were blurred out. Except it really wasn’t done very well. Pausing the footage revealed all the details. I can only hope that the lady who was “scammed” has fully changed all her password details.
A couple of weeks ago in the Stephen Fry edition of Who Do You Think You Are, the makers very carefully blurred out his number plate in one shot. A couple of scenes later, a shot showed Fry driving off with the numberplate completly unobscured and filling up a high proportion of the screen.
