Channel 4 has, as promised, launched as a streaming service on the web. It seems to be a simplish process of just registering online, clicking the authorisation email (they might want to mention that, as I couldn’t get the service to work initially), and you’re away.
Surely, the thing is using IP address ranges to tell if I’m in the UK, and it can’t be as simple as just needing a UK postcode to get access can it?
The stream’s OK – although since at time of writing it’s the Hollyoaks omnibus (with in-vision signing), I didn’t hang around for long. From what I did see, the quality was fine.
Of course not everything is going to be streamed – particularly not films, sport or US imports. But I forsee much wasted office man-hours when Deal or No Deal and Richard & Judy are on.
With the World Cup (RIP), Wimbledon and now this, there’s barely any time to do work.
Of course, the BBC’s multicast experiment is quite nice, but my ISP isn’t there yet.
