Archiving Podcasts
This week, it was announced that WTF with Marc Maron would be ending its run after 16 years. The show will end sometime in the autumn (aka ‘fall’) having produced more than 1,600 episodes over that time. Maron’s podcast was one of the big early titles, and it’s fair to say that although Maron was…

Communications Bill
I can’t believe that the government have been so stupid over this bill. Yesterday, the Lords massively defeated the government.

Spooks
While some might have quite enjoyed last night’s episode, it was pretty obvious where the episode was going from the outset, and even knowledge that the series is not afraid to kill off major cast members is not enough to prevent the resolution being obvious from some way off. I’m led to believe that this…

A Wild Sheep Chase
I must admit that it’s taken me a bit longer than usual to work through this particualr Murakami book. Without checking, I’m not quite sure where in the oeuvre this fits, but it truly is a wild “sheep” chase. It involves a typical Murakami protaganist, a small-time publisher, who’s dragged into a neverworld built around…

Communications Bill
There was a fantastic piece by Steve Barnett in yesterday’s Observer talking about the forthcoming Communications Bill, and the various parts of it that the government simply haven’t been able to defend so far. I really do hope that the House of Lords sort the government out over this. This coming week should really sort…

State of Play
So State of Play finished last night and it didn’t pull any punches. Great performances all round, and even though it is back for another series, I can’t see all that many characters beyond the newspaper ones being able to return for it. I’d quite happily watch the whole thing again, although I didn’t feel…

Special Characters
I can see that Movable Type’s not brilliant at special characters without using proper HTML to describe them. Will bear that in mind. I’ve got a basic “Now Playing” section working, but I’ve kind of given up on the Amazon link, since for whatever reason, Winamp simply won’t pass more info than the song title…

Observer Business Section
As I sat and read in the park this afternoon, listening to the cricket, I read a couple of very interesting stories in the Business section of The Observer. The first was a piece about a tiny set of islands called So Tom and Princpe – just off the coast of West Africa. I’ve got…

The Site Evolves
Well I now have Winamp talking to my PC courtesy of the very smart Virtual Venus website and the associated plugins and scripting languages that their system uses. I just need to take it one step further, and that’s proving to be quite difficult. Basically I want it to have those very smart pop-up boxes.

Getting Now Playing Working
Well I got my calendar right, but now I need to get my Now Playing working properly. More complicated than the instructions suggested. I shall persevere over the weekend. It may be something to do with firewalls here, so I’ll have bash at home.

Calendar’s Working
Excellent! The week now starts on a Monday, which anyone in the world apart from the States knows. I used a patch from a kindly soul on the Movable Type support forum.

Entitlement Cards: The Follow Up
Well no sooner do I blog, than things happen (unless our proxy is really misbehaving). First of all, I note that on Wednesday, in response to a question from “Mr Bailey” asking a question about when the analysis of the consultation on entitlement cards will be complete, Beverley Hughes from the Home Office responded that…

Hansard is slow…
Well so much for Hansard’s claim that they update the previous day’s contents at 8.00am the following day. It’s nearly quarter to three in the afternoon, and I still can’t see any of yesterday’s reports!
