Edison Research Top 25 Podcasts in the UK: Q4 2024

Edison Research has just published its Q4 2024 list of the top podcast titles in the UK.

A reminder that this data is based on a survey of at least 2,000 weekly podcast listeners in the UK using the same methodology that it employs for its US survey. And the survey is based on recall, so essentially measures everything regardless of the desires of podcast networks to be included or not.

As previously, I’ve updated a table of this data over time to show longer term trends:

From this we can see that the top 3 titles are unchanged since last quarter.

Goalhanger continues to do very well with three of the top five titles. The BBC has the most titles in the list overall.

News titles did well this quarter with gains for The News Agents and Newscast. The Daily was a re-entry this quarter. What’s more, Americast was a new entry suggesting a certain degree of interest in the US Presidential election in the quarter.

The other new entry is Stick to Football from The Overlap.

Other things to note are the sizeable jumps of The Archers, Crime Junkie and That Peter Crouch Podcast compared with last quarter.

The three titles that fell out of the chart this quarter were The Fellas, Call Her Daddy (#4 in the US chart) and You’re Dead to Me (airing only “radio edit” versions of previously released episodes during this quarter).

Only three of the UK top 25 are also in the equivalent Q4 2024 US top 50 podcast chart:

  • The Joe Rogan Experience – #1 on both charts
  • Crime Junkie – #2 in the US, #12 in the UK
  • The Daily – #3 in the US, #17 in the UK

And indeed, these are the only three non-British titles in the UK top 25. I would also note that there are no British titles in the US top 50 list at all!

I’ve also tried charting this data over time. I need to understand a little more about the vagaries of embedding a JSON file (helpfully created by Google Gemini) into WordPress without pricey plugins to get this working better. But in the meantime, in this non-interactive version, you can see relatively easily that the top podcasts have been at the top for quite some time, whilst further down the list, titles do move around quite a lot.
